MATH
Students who meet the standard are able to:
* Perform algebraic operations involving polynomials.
* Use relationships and formulas to determine the measurement of unknown
dimensions, angles, areas and volumes to solve problems.
* Justify geometric relationships and transformations.
* Judge and defend the reasonableness of answers as applied to real-world
situations.
* Apply statistical reasoning in the organization and display of data and in
reading tables and graphs.
* Analyze and interpret data in tabular and graphical form.
* Understand and use algorithms, matrices and finite graphs.
* Make conjectures, defend ideas and give supporting examples.
READING
Students who meet the standard are able to:
* Comprehend and respond to text both literally and inferentially.
* Interpret and extend the text by making connections and generalizations,
drawing conclusions and summarizing.
* In fiction, students are able to interpret implied meaning, analyze
character and understand the use of figurative language.
* In non-fiction, students are able to distinguish between fact and opinion
and evaluate the effectiveness of organizational structure to present
information.
WRITING
Students who meet the standard demonstrate the ability to:
* Apply skills for effective written communication.
* Edit a paragraph for correct grammar, spelling and usage, such as
subject-verb agreement in complex sentences, verb tense and commas in
introductory phrases and clauses.
* Effectively structure a sentence, using transitions and correcting
run-ons.
* Identify and use writing strategies and techniques in a variety of genres
specific to audience and purpose: persuasive, narrative, literary analysis,
formal communications and research documents.
