Parents:
It is an honor to be your son or daughter's teacher. I have taught at
Nogales High School since 1986. My wife Elizabeth also a teacher at NHS,
we have three kids in Nogales Schools.
I am writing you to encourage communication with you so that together,
we can ensure your son or daughter's success in my U.S. Government or
U.S. History class.
There are many ways in which we may communicate throughout the year.
First, I encourage you to visit with me at school. Please call and make
arrangements. You may also call me at school any day between 2:30 and
3:15, or leave a message and I'll get back to you.
I would very much like to include you in my class email tree. I will
send an email to interested parents about class projects, assignment and
events. We may also use email to arrange an individual meeting about your
son or daughter's progress.
An effective means in which you may find out what is going on in class
and my daily lesson plans is to visit my class web page at teachweb.org,
once there follow the "Parents" link on the left top of the
page.
I strongly encourage you to be active in your son or daughter's class
work and to become a teaching partner with me. By staying informed of
class events and assignments and by arranging personal meeting with me,
we can personalize you child's achievement in the class.
This year I will be working on National Board of Professional Teaching
Standards certification. NBPTS teacher certification is a rigorous teacher
improvement and documentation process. Through this process I will be
able to improve my teaching and document my work as a teacher. It's much
like a Senior Project for teachers.
We will work hard on the Senior Project in the government classes. I
will help my students every step of the way and expect that they do their
best work. I will hold regular required meetings and will hold numerous
study and preparation sessions. I hope to ensure that the Senior Project
is one of the greatest challenges faced by your son or daughter in school
and that we will show them what success in life is all about through the
senior project.
I hope you will communicate with me on a regular basis at the phone at
377-2021 or email at gthomson@nusd.k12.az.us.
Thank you for letting me teach your kids.
Sincerely,
George Thomson
