Raising the awareness of young voters in our community is essential in order to improve of governmental system. About 40 percent of the population did not vote in the last election. Whether this was due to no interest at all in politics or just misunderstandings, the fact of the matter is that citizens need to be aware of the benefits voting offers. Not only does voting determine an election, but also it shapes our future.
Whenever new elections are underway, the streets seem to be filled
with propaganda that influence and encourages the public to vote. So
much effort is put into this aspect that candidates seem to go to extreme
levels to try to gain a vote. With this simple intention of trying to
get our votes, I believe that candidates and city officials should increase
the awareness to young adults of the benefits of voting. voting, the processes, and how to become a registered voter. Mayor Lopez, mayor of Nogales, AZ and, Mayor Guzman, mayor of Nogales, Son, should take on this responsibility. In addition to gaining the support of both mayors, city councilmen should also participate in speaking about voting and clearing up doubts young voters might have. With the support of high city officials, teenagers must now have the
influence of peers they can relate to. This is where groups of students
from Nogales High School government classes come in place. Teenagers
need people they can relate to in order to understand and expand their
horizons of how voting can change our future and world we one day will
inherit. Government students can explain how the Unites States' governmental
system was founded and the principles, which it is run today. Finally,
a brief explination of how they can register to vote and how facts of
potential candidates can convince non-voters to start voting. |
